92 Nassau Street, the Lower Pyne Building, is one of Princeton’s best known historic landmarks. It is located directly across the street from venerable Nassau Hall (one-time Capitol building of the United States of America and the State of New Jersey).

Built in 1898 as a dormitory for Princeton University, Lower Pyne Building is an example of the so-called Tudor Style, a revival style commonly used between 1890 and 1940. According to architects, the name Tudor Style is often historically imprecise, since relatively few examples closely mimic the architectural characteristics of Tudor (early 16th-century) England. Instead, the style is loosely based on a variety of late Medieval English prototypes, ranging from thatch-roofed folk cottages to grand manor houses.

The most obvious characteristic of Tudor Style (and our new location) is decorative half-timbering. Other traits include a steeply pitched roof; cross gables; tall, narrow windows with multi-pane glazing; and massive chimneys commonly crowned by decorative chimney pots.
