Rita Allen Foundation Announces Appointment of Robert Campbell to Board of Directors

The Rita Allen Foundation is pleased to announce that Robert E. Campbell has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Mr. Campbell is a retired Vice Chairman of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) where he also served as Chairman of the Professional Sector Worldwide.

"We are extremely fortunate to have Bob join us,” said Rita Allen Foundation Board of Directors Chairman Aristides Georgantas. “He is an outstanding business and community leader who is universally respected for his judgment, sound advice, integrity and energy.”

Mr. Campbell enjoyed a long, distinguished and successful career with J&J. He started with the Company in 1955 and later served as an Air Force officer for three years. While with the pharmaceutical giant, he held numerous positions in financial and general management including Treasurer, Vice President Finance, and Executive Committee Member.

In his new role, Mr. Campbell will collaborate with other Board Directors to build on the strategic vision of the Rita Allen Foundation and oversee its policies and growth.

“Having worked with Bob Campbell on several occasions, I know we will benefit greatly from his experience and wise counsel,” said Elizabeth Christopherson, President, CEO and Director of the Rita Allen Foundation. “He has a long list of achievements for which he can be very proud, yet it is clear his humility and compassion are what guide his sense of duty. He is always giving to the community, searching out new ideas and listening to others to enhance the lives of those around him.”

Mr. Campbell is currently the Chairman of the Director’s Advisory Council of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and a past Trustee and Chairman of the Board of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He is a member of the Advisory Council for the College of Science of the University of Notre Dame and is an Overseer of The Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He is also past Chairman and current Trustee Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of Fordham University.

“I am excited to be part of the Rita Allen Foundation and to be working with such an outstanding and committed Board and staff,” Mr. Campbell said. “Today more than ever, our nation needs a greater emphasis on scientific and medical research and advancement. I look forward to taking up the challenge of expanding Rita Allen’s role to assist more scientific and medical scholars with developments that lead to healthier people across the globe.”

Over the years, Mr. Campbell was also active on the boards of a broad scope of organizations including Rutgers University Graduate School of Management, St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick Affiliated Hospitals, The Seeing Eye, the Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County, Catholic Charities, and the NJN Foundation.

He is a past recipient of the Diocese of Metuchen’s Humanitarian of the Year Award and received the Outstanding Philanthropist Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He has also been honored by B’nai B’rith and is a recipient of the State of Israel Peace Medal.

A graduate of Fordham University, Mr. Campbell earned a MBA degree at Rutgers University. He is also the recipient of honorary doctorate degrees from Fordham University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Mr. Campbell and his wife, Joan, are the parents of four children and have nine grandchildren.
